Association experts are crucial for making the right contacts and matching associations with the conference offer in Flanders. Tuya Beyers is one of the three association experts of Tourism Flanders. In the past 14 years, she has built up quite some experience in various segments of the meeting industry, including Guava and The Oval Office. With the launch of The House of Congress (a ‘professional congress organizer’), she used her creative, logistical and substantive experience in organizing conferences and meetings.
The opportunity to work the association market for Tourism Flanders represented a new challenge for the Tuya Beyens. “I’m excited to share and combine my experience as an organizer with the experiences of the other association experts to bring Flanders to the next level. We divided Flanders into different growth sectors linked to the cities and divided among the three experts. I mainly will focus on the port, the chemical industry, the creative industry and the diamond sector. My colleagues will follow up on art, culture and the pharmacological industry. However, we are a team and we will assist each other, but the focus has been mirrored on our backgrounds and the projects we already delivered in order to further expand those contacts.”
The three association experts will promote Flanders internationally as a conference destination. They work closely with the local congress offices of Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent and Leuven. Tourism Flanders wants to attract around 300 international congresses by 2021, twice as much as today. “We have different goals. Initially, there are 300 congresses to bring to Flanders, but there are several ways to achieve that. On the one hand, there is the research and sales towards the associations, and on the other hand, together with our partners, we will try to raise our level and together with the stakeholders see where we can improve. Overall, many tasks ahead,” ends the association expert.
Tuya Beyers, Associatie-expert Toerisme Vlaanderen: een divers takenpakket
Associatie-experts zijn cruciaal om de juiste contacten te leggen en de vraag van associaties te matchen met het congresaanbod in Vlaanderen. Tuya Beyers is één van de drie associatie-experts van Toerisme Vlaanderen. Ze bouwde de afgelopen 14 jaar ervaring op in verschillende segmenten van de meetingindustrie, onder andere bij Guava en The Oval Office. Met de start van The House of Congress (een ‘professional congress organizer’) zette ze haar creatieve, logistieke en inhoudelijke ervaring in bij het organiseren van congressen en meetings.
De mogelijkheid om voor Toerisme Vlaanderen de associatiemarkt te gaan bespelen, betekende een nieuwe stimulans voor de Tuya Beyens. “Het is een mooie uitdaging om mijn ervaring als organizer samen met de andere associatie-experts, die andere invalshoekervaringen hebben, de krachten te bundelen om Vlaanderen naar een hoger niveau te tillen. We hebben Vlaanderen opgedeeld in verschillende groeisectoren gelinkt aan de steden en verdeeld tussen de drie experts. Ik ga vooral instaan voor de haven, de chemiesector, de creatieve industrie en de diamantsector. Mijn collega’s voor kunst, cultuur en ook nog de farmacologische industrie. We zijn echter een team en we gaan evenwel overschrijdend werken, maar de focus is gespiegeld aan onze achtergrond en de projecten die we reeds hadden zodat we die contacten verder gaan uitbouwen.”
Die drie associatie-experts zullen Vlaanderen internationaal promoten als congresbestemming. Ze gaan nauw samenwerken met de lokale congresbureaus van Antwerpen, Brugge, Gent en Leuven. Toerisme Vlaanderen wil tegen 2021 zo’n 300 grote internationale congressen aantrekken, dubbel zoveel als vandaag. “We hebben verschillende doelen. In eerste instantie die 300 congressen naar Vlaanderen halen, maar er zijn verschillende wegen om dat te bereiken. Enerzijds de research en sales naar de associaties, de raakpunten in kaart brengen, maar anderzijds met de partners in Vlaanderen ons niveau optillen en kijken met de stakeholders waar we ons kunnen verbeteren. Kortom, een divers takenpakket”, aldus nog de associatie-expert.
