Thon Hotels is a Norwegian hotel group, which operates five hotels and three furnished apartment residences in Brussels. In total there are almost 1,500 rooms. The hotel group is owned by the charismatic entrepreneur Olav Thon and major real estate group Olav Thon Gruppen. Olav Thon Gruppen is one of Norway’s largest real estate companies; next to hotels the group also has office buildings, apartment buildings, shopping centres and other real estate in portfolio.
Thon Hotels is one of the few hotel chains that is still in private ownership. This offers the advantage that the service is personalized ,because there is a greater freedom in the acquisition of properties. This allows Thon hotels to keep their own identity which offers the opportunity to not over uniformalise as in other hotel chains. Each Thon Hotel has its own specific architecture and interior design and is different from the other hotels in the group.
As the latest innovation in Brussels, Thon Hotels is currently equipping all its rooms with SMART TV’s. For in room entertainment, the challenge was to find a flexible and forward-looking solution as guests wants to listen to music or watch TV or movie at any time. Today, there are some interesting tools such as Netflix and Youtube, but it is not always nice to see everything on a small screen. The new TV solution fully meets these needs as guests are able to mirror their small screen on the big SMART TV screen. Thon Hotels chose to work with a 100% Belgian solution.

Thon Hotel Brussel gaat elke kamer van SMART TV’s voorzien
Thon Hotels is een Noorse hotelgroep, die in Brussel 5 hotels en 3 residenties uitbaat. In het totaal gaat het om bijna 1.500 kamers. Thon Hotels is ook één van de weinige hotelketens die nog in privéhanden is. Door dit gegeven is er een grotere vrijheid in de acquisitie van de eigendommen, zo hebben de hotels elk hun eigen karakter en is er minder sprake van uniformiteit als in andere ketens. Ieder Thon Hotel heeft zijn eigen specifieke architectuur en interieur en is totaal verschillend van de andere hotels in de groep.
Als laatste nieuwigheid in Brussel wil Thon Hotels elke kamer van SMART TV’s voorzien. Het is de uitdaging voor elk hotel om een televisie-ervaring te geven die past bij elke gast. Iedere gast heeft andere noden,zo willen sommige mensen traditioneel luisteren naar muziek, een film kijken of zappen tussen de verschillende kanalen.Nu zijn er de “new generation” entertainment kanalen zoals Netflix en Youtube, niet ideaal om dit tijdens het reizen op een klein scherm te bekijken , maar de nieuwe SMART TV’s zullen de gast toelaten, door spiegeling van smartphone of tablet deze kanalen op een groter scherm ( de SMART TV’s ) te beleven.
