Business meetings in Belgium … never mind how early you leave for one, or whatever detour you make, you will inevitably face traffic jams, which apparently you can never escape. Now, imagine Mallorca, one of the Spanish Balearic Islands … Flight time hardly two hours, nearly as long as the average time on the traffic congested route Antwerp-Brussels on a drizzly autumn day. This sunny island offers a number of interesting locations and venues for MICE activities and is without doubt a fun and original alternative location instead of a sad and grey Belgium in the fall. Olivier Wauters of Eventonline flew to the Spanish island to check it out and to scout some interesting MICE venues. Yep, it’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it!
“As my base for this scouting trip, I choose the ‘Lindner Golf & Wellness Resort Portals Nous’. For me it was the perfect location to combine ‘business & pleasure’,” says Olivier. “The check –in obviously went smoothly in this charming resort that offers many possibilities. I had a meeting with General Manager Carolina Cordes and Marketing Manager Nicole Rose with whom I discussed the advantages of the resort as a MICE destination. Olivier also visited the ‘Steigenberger Golf Resort & Spa Camp de Mar’ and ‘Maritim Hotel Galatzó Mallorca’, both alternative accommodations that also offer the necessary infrastructure for MICE activities.
Besides a wide range of cultural activities and an attractive choice of sporting possibilities – golf, fitness, water sports, etc. – Mallorca also offers a nearly inexhaustible supply of cozy restaurants. Olivier tried out a few that could be the right place to hold a farewell dinner at the end of a seminar.
‘Misa Braseria’ is a Mediterranean brasserie with a modern-rustic feel and a lively, vibrant atmosphere. The kitchen produces exciting cuisine with intense flavors and Mediterranean influences. Dishes range from fish soup in Catalan style with monkfish and mussels to beef fried in fragrant herbs and … delicious chocolate desserts. ‘Es Canyis’ is an intimate restaurant with a beautiful panoramic view of the bay. Interestingly, larger groups are welcome here with special group menus you can download via the website. ‘Es Raco d’es Teix’ is an elegant restaurant where you can enjoy Spanish cuisine that was awarded with a Michelin star. From the terrace you have a beautiful view of the village of Deià and the Teix Mountain. Italian dining is also possible. If you crave for pasta, you need to stop at ‘Campino Persico’ . The restaurant serves fine Italian cuisine and also serves as the clubhouse of the ‘Golf de Andratx’, one of the most beautiful golf courses of the island and home to several well-known international golf tournaments. ‘Tast Club’ serves a tasty meal in a dazzling Spanish atmosphere, while ‘Daica’ is a restaurant that opts for the typical local cuisine. The latest cooking techniques are used to serve up traditional dishes. Daica offers great food at reasonable prices in an authentic environment, particularly in the village of Llubí, in the very heart of Mallorca. Next to the restaurant is a small hotel with three rooms, the ideal place to discover the peaceful side of Mallorca. Of course there is also ‘Es Romaní’, the restaurant of the ‘Lindner Golf & Wellness Resort Portals Nous’ where chef Martin Schattenberg rules the kitchen. The chef is a creative perfectionist who’s daring cuisine and traditional menus can seduce any palate like no other. MICE Scouting Trip in Mallorca
Business meetings in België … Hoe vroeg je ook vertrekt, welke omwegen je ook maakt, je wordt steevast geconfronteerd met files waaraan je blijkbaar nooit kan ontsnappen. Neem nu Mallorca op de Spaanse Balearen. Op amper twee uur vliegen – even lang als het gemiddelde filetraject Antwerpen-Brussel op een miezerige herfstdag – biedt een aantal interessante locaties en venues voor MICE-activiteiten als leuk en origineel alternatief voor een druilerig België in de herfst. Olivier Wauters van Eventonline vloog richting het Spaanse eiland om alvast even poolshoogte te nemen en enkele interessante MICE-stekjes te scouten. Yep, it’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it!

Mallorca heeft naast een brede waaier culturele activiteiten en een aanlokkelijk ontspanningsaanbod – golf, fitness, watersport, enz. – ook een haast onuitputtelijke voorraad van kwalitatieve en gezellige eetgelegenheden. Olivier deed de proef op de som en bezocht er enkele die de moeite waard zijn om er het afscheidsdiner van een seminarie te houden.

Interessant is dat ook grotere groepen welkom zijn met speciale groepmenu’s die je via de website kan downloaden. ‘Es Racó d’es Teix’ is een elegant restaurant waar je kan genieten van een Spaanse keuken die werd bekroond met een Michelin-ster. Vanop het terras heb je trouwens een prachtig uitzicht op het dorpje Deià en de Teix berg. Italiaans tafelen kan ook. Daarvoor moet je in ‘Campino Persico’ zijn. Het restaurant serveert heerlijke Italiaanse gerechten en dient tevens als clubhouse van de ‘Golf de Andratx’, één van de mooiere golfterreinen van het eiland en thuishaven van enkele gekende internationale golftoernooien. ‘Tast Club’ staat dan weer borg voor lekker tafelen in een wervelende Spaanse sfeer. ‘Daica’ daarentegen is een restaurant dat kiest voor de typische lokale keuken. Naast het restaurant is ook een klein hotel met drie kamers, de ideale plek om de rustigste kant van Mallorca te ontdekken.
