World Heritage city Bruges can rely on a wide range of quality hotels and venues and convention bureau Meeting in Bruges would like to put these in the spotlight here at IBTM World. “Bruges stands for quality. Many hotels have won awards lately and we want to highlight these accomplishments, like Dukes’ Palace, Grand Hotel Casselbergh, Hotel Heritage, Hotel Jan Brito and The Pand Hotel,” says Sarah Cornand, Sales Manager of Bruges Convention Bureau. “Some of these are Boutique hotels which are not always well known to the general public and those hotels can be an excellent choice for an incentive. Why not book a whole Boutique hotel for a group, it makes your incentive quite exclusive.” Bruges stands for outstanding cuisine, but also its beer finds itself in the spotlight at the moment. “There is now the ‘beer pipeline’ of the Halve Maan Brewery which has even reached the international press. That’s also a nice trigger”, notes the Sales Manager.
However, there is still something missing in Bruges, but not for long anymore. Near the Concert Hall and ‘t Zand a new convention and exhibition center will be built in the near future. “The old exhibition hall will be demolished in 2017 and by March 2017 five international project teams will submit a proposal for this new state-of-the-art venue. The list of candidates is in any case impressive! By 2020, the building will open its doors,” explains Sarah Cornand.
The new building will measure approximately 4.500m2 of exhibition space and a congress infrastructure for 500 to 600 participants, with a plenary space, breakout rooms and networking areas, and all this according to the ‘three chairs’-principle. It will be a state of the art building right in the center of the historical heart of Bruges.
“Exciting times are ahead of us,” says Sarah Cornand. “Association Conferences are scheduled far ahead into the future. So we have already had congressional requests for 2020 and 2021.With the new congress venue, we will remain competitive and Bruges can be an interesting alternative to other international destinations. In addition to the association market, Bruges will also continue to focus on the corporate market and incentives.”

Nieuwe congresinfrastructuur voor Brugge tegen 2020
Werelderfgoedstad Brugge kan terugvallen op een brede waaier van kwalitatieve hotels en venues en die wenst congresbureau Meeting in Brugge dan ook in de kijker zetten hier op IBTM World. “Brugge is sowieso heel sterk in het leveren van kwaliteit. Heel veel hotels hebben de laatste tijd awards gewonnen en die willen we in de picture zetten. Zoals Dukes’ Palace, Grand Hotel Casselbergh, Hotel Heritage, Hotel Jan Brito en The Pand Hotel”, stelt Sarah Cornand, Sales Manager van Bruges Convention Bureau. “Sommigen zijn Boutique hotels die bij het grote publiek nog niet altijd zijn gekend en net die hotels zijn eigenlijk leuk voor een incentive. Waarom niet een heel Boutique hotel voor een groep boeken, dat maakt het wel exclusief.” In Brugge is het uiteraard lekker eten, maar ook het Brugse bier staat volop in de belangstelling. “Er is nu de bierpijplijn van Brouwerij Halve Maan die zelfs de internationale pers heeft gehaald. Da’s ook een mooie trigger.”
Er staat echter nog wat op til in Brugge. In de buurt van het Concertgebouw en ’t Zand wordt in de nabije toekomst een nieuw congres-en beursgebouw opgetrokken. “De oude beurshal wordt in 2017 afgebroken en tegen maart 2017 dienen 5 internationale projectteams een voorstel in voor de nieuwe state-of-the-art architectuur. Daaruit wordt dan één geselecteerd. De lijst met kandidaten is in elk geval indrukwekkend! Tegen 2020 zal het gebouw de deuren openen”, legt Sarah Cornand uit.
Het nieuwe gebouw zal zo’n 4.500m2 aan beursoppervlakte tellen en congresinfrastructuur voor 500 à 600 deelnemers, met een plenaire ruimte, breakout rooms, netwerkhoekjes en degelijke, en dit allemaal volgens het driestoelenprincipe. Het wordt een ‘state of the art’ gebouw middenin het historische hart van Brugge.
“Spannende tijden melden zich aan”, aldus Sarah Cornand. “Associatiecongressen worden ver in de toekomst gepland. Zo hebben we al congresaanvragen voor 2020 en 2021.
Met het nieuwe congresgebouw blijven we concurrentieel sterk en kunnen we met Brugge een boeiend alternatief bieden ten opzichte van andere internationale bestemmingen. Naast de associatiemarkt blijft Brugge zich uiteraard ook verder richten op de corporate markt en de incentives.”
