Everyone praises Ibiza as a trendy island, but thinks less about Mallorca. This Balearic Island seems to have the bad reputation of excessive drinking and frenzied celebrations. However, beyond those few kilometers where rowdy tourists party all night long, this island has plenty to offer in my humble opinion, not only for recreation and tourism, but also for everything MICE! Since I got to know the island in 2015, I fell in love with this little pearl in the Mediterranean. The pleasant climate and diverse geography aside, the island is also quickly accessible, something that few people realize. The island is hardly a 1h45 flight away from Brussels. All together, it took me just three hours from Zaventem Airport to the door of my hotel room! Unbelievable! With some bad luck, you’re stuck in traffic on the E19 between Antwerp and Brussels, for three hours or even longer.
Recently, I was in Mallorca again for some research. I’ll keep it hush-hush for now, but it will be MICE-related, and let’s say that the bicycle also plays a leading role, but more on that later.
As a base I always use the Lindner Hotel in Portals Nous. The service is top notch and the hotel is perfect for both B2B and B2C and has the proper infrastructure and facilities for all MICE activities.
I crisscrossed the island on my racing bike, but it would be unfair not to mention the following restaurants that are certainly worthwhile a stop to eat a snack or more.

1. Restaurant ‘Es Port’ in Puerto de Valldemossa – No doubt my absolute N° 1, not in terms of the interior, but for the great kitchen and the beautiful panorama. You probably can’t find a more genuine Mallorca … and probably the best sea bass I’ve ever eaten. You have to endure a series of hairpin bends down to the port, but it’s worth the effort. The view is phenomenal. I saw one of the most beautiful sunsets ever.
2. ‘Lila‘ is such a pleasant hotspot. Again an amazing view of the port of Portals Nous and the Mediterranean, delicious cuisine, excellent wines. In short, a must.
3. ‘Flanigan’ is another winner in the port of Portals! If you want ‘front row’ seats, you best book a week in advance! Again a fantastic setting, you imagine yourself in a mini Monaco! Also a very extensive wine list (higher price category).
4. ‘Tahini Sushi Bar’ – Sushi in Mallorca? Why not?! Puerto Portals, nice little place, fantastic Spanish local wines!
All four mentioned restaurants have one thing in common: excellent service by lovely people who welcome you with a warm heart! I love Mallorca! – Definitely Wood Approved!
Het moet me van het hart. Iedereen spreekt vol lof over Ibiza als trendy eiland, maar de neus wordt opgehaald voor Mallorca. Dat eiland zou de foute reputatie van overmatig drankgebruik en uitzinnige feesten hebben. Echter, buiten die enkele kilometers marginaliteit, heeft dit eiland in de Balearen mijns inziens enorm veel te bieden, niet alleen voor ontspanning en toerisme, maar tevens voor alles MICE! Sinds ik het eiland leerde kennen in 2015, ben ik er als het ware verliefd op geworden. Het aangename klimaat en de afwisselende geografie buiten beschouwing gelaten, is het eiland ook snel bereikbaar, iets wat weinigen beseffen. Een vlucht van amper 1h45 vanuit Brussel. Alles samen was ik drie uur onderweg vanuit Zaventem tot mijn hotelkamer! Ongelooflijk toch! Als het even tegenzit, sta je even lang (of langer!) in de file op de E19 tussen Antwerpen en Brussel.
Onlangs was ik opnieuw in Mallorca voor wat research. Waarvoor, hou ik nog even voor mezelf, maar uiteraard zal het MICE-gerelateerd zijn, en de fiets speelt ook een hoofdrol, maar daarover later meer.
Als uitvalsbasis verblijf ik steevast in het Lindner Hotel in Portals Nous. De service is er top en het hotel is perfect voor zowel B2B als B2C en heeft de juiste infrastructuur en faciliteiten voor alle MICE-activiteiten.
Naast het eiland te hebben doorkruist op mijn racefiets, zou het unfair zijn om niks neer te pennen over de volgende resto’s die zeker de moeite lonen om er een hapje te verorberen.

- Restaurant ‘Es Port’ in Puerto de Valldemossa – Ongetwijfeld mijn absolute nr. 1, niet qua interieur, maar voor de keuken en het wondermooie panorama. Puurder kan je Mallorca niet ontdekken en … misschien wel de beste zeebaars ooit gegeten. Je moet wel via een reeks haarspeldbochten naar beneden, maar het loont. Het uitzicht is fenomenaal, ik zag er één van de mooiste zonsondergangen ooit.
- ‘Lila’ is ook weer zo’n aangename hotspot. Weerom een waanzinnig zicht op de haven van Portals Nous en de Middellandse zee, lekkere keuken, topwijntjes. Kortom, ook een aanrader.
- ‘Flanigan’ is opnieuw een topper in de haven van Puerto Portals! Als je de eerste rij wenst, best reserveren een week op voorhand! Ook weer een fantastische omgeving, je waant jezelf in een mini Monaco! Tevens een zeer uitgebreide wijnkaart (hogere prijsklasse).
- ‘Tahini Sushi Bar’ – Sushi in Mallorca? Waarom niet?! Tevens in Puerto Portals, super leuk kader, fantastische Spaanse lokale wijnen!
Alle vier vermelde resto’s hebben één ding gemeen: uitstekende service door lieve mensen die je met een warm hart ontvangen! I love Mallorca! – Definitely Wood Approved!
