Last Friday, June 16, I had the privilege of participating in the ‘Hilton Car Rally’ as a member of the press. The Hilton Car Rally is an event specially organized for the corporate customers of the hotel chain and alongside this Benelux edition; other editions also took place in Spain and France.
For me, the trip started at the Hilton Antwerp Old Town, where all the participants first got a nice breakfast before entering the minivan to The Hague. During this first road trip, participants received a goodie bag with fruits, water and chocolates.
Once we arrived at Hilton The Hague, we registered for the Rally after which we received a lanyard with our accreditation. All in the colors of Hilton and partner Sixt, blue/white and orange. A hat and roadbook completed our outfit.
After the registration, the teams – 36 teams in 36 cars – passed the ‘Wall of Fame’ for a nice photo shoot.
Meanwhile, it was time for lunch, some fun in the sun on the terrace of Hilton The Hague. A DJ provided the right tunes for a pleasant atmosphere and you could enjoy non-alcoholic beverages in the cocktail bar.
After lunch, the Rally took off. I shared a car with a Hilton client and Vincent, the sales manager of Hilton Antwerp Old Town. Our roadster was a BMW 530.
In the roadbook there were only GPS coordinates. Thus, it became a point-to-point (‘connecting the dots’) with fun destinations, such as A Seal where we could spot small seals, a museum, a pit stop with herring tasting, or a pit stop for a tasting of the new Heineken alcohol-free 0.0% beer. In short, the entire route led us through Zeeland where we witnessed beautiful landscapes.
The Rally eventually led us to Hilton Antwerp Old Town. To our surprise, our team arrived first at the finish – it was not a race, but certainly a boost for our ego! At the main entrance of Hilton Antwerp Old Town the red carpet was rolled out for us and we were flashed … by the photographer in charge. At the hotel we were given a small tour of the ballroom that was set up as a plenary event session.
When all the teams had arrived, we were invited to a private terrace on the Antwerp Groenplaats for a delicious BBQ, including an oyster bar, a gin bar, Seefbier truck, snacks, red and white wines, in short everything you need to strengthen your inner self.
Finally, prizes were awarded for the best hashtag selfie, and the most complete answers to the questionnaire. The 1st prize was a cabrio weekend offered by Sixt and the 2nd prize – won by … yes my team – 3 vouchers for an overnight stay at the Trianon Palace Versailles, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel!

Hilton Car Rally: connecting the dots!
Afgelopen vrijdag, 16 juni, had ik het privilege om als lid van de pers de ‘Hilton Car Rally’ te mogen meerijden. De Hilton Car Rally is een event speciaal georganiseerd voor de corporate klanten van de hotelketen en naast deze Benelux editie werden er gelijktijdig ook edities gereden in Spanje en Frankrijk.
De trip startte voor mij in de Hilton Antwerp Old Town, waar alle deelnemers eerst een lekker ontbijt kregen voorgeschoteld alvorens het minibusje in te stappen richting Den Haag. Tijdens deze eerste roadtrip kregen de deelnemers alvast een goodie bag met fruit, water en chocolade.
Aangekomen in Hilton Den Haag, volgde de registratie voor de Rally waarna we een lanyard met onze accreditatie in ontvangst namen. Alles in de kleuren van Hilton en partner Sixt, blauw/wit en oranje dus. Een pet en roadbook maakte de outfit compleet.
Na de registratie passeerden de teams – 36 teams in 36 wagens – langs de ‘Wall of Fame’ voor een leuke fotoshoot.
Ondertussen was het tijd voor de lunch, lekker en leuk in het zonnetje op het terras van Hilton Den Haag. Een DJ zorgde met de juiste deuntjes voor een aangename sfeer en in de cocktailbar kon je non-alcoholische drankjes nuttigen.
Na de lunch, volgde het starschot voor de Rally. Ik deelde de wagen met een klant van Hilton en Vincent, de sales manager van Hilton Antwerp Old Town. Onze ‘roadster’ was een BMW 530.

Het werd bijgevolg een point-to-point, (‘connecting the dots’ dus) met leuke bestemmingen, zoals bijvoorbeeld A Seal waar we kleine zeehondjes konden spotten, een museum, een pitstop met haringdegustatie, of nog, een pitstop voor een degustatie van het nieuwe Heineken alcoholvrije 0.0% bier. Kortom, het ganse traject voerde ons door Zeeland waar we getuige waren van prachtige polderlandschappen.
De Rally leidde ons uiteindelijk naar Hilton Antwerp Old Town. Tot onze verbazing arriveerde ons team als eerste over de finish – het was evenwel geen race, maar wel leuk voor ons ego! Aan de hoofdingang van Hilton Antwerp Old Town lag de rode loper klaar en werden we nog geflitst … door de fotograaf van dienst. In het hotel kregen we nog een kleine rondleiding in de ballroom die was opgesteld als plenaire eventsessie.
Nadat alle teams waren aangekomen, werden we op een afgebakend terras op de Antwerpse Groenplaats vergast op een lekkere BBQ, inclusief oesterbar, ginbar, Seefbier truck, hapjes, rode en witte wijnen, kortom alles om de innerlijke mens te sterken.
Tot slot volgde er nog een prijsuitreiking voor de beste hashtag selfie, en de meest complete oplossingen van de vragenlijst. De 1ste prijs was een cabrioweekend aangeboden door Sixt en de 2de prijs – gewonnen door … jawel mijn team – 3 vouchers voor een hotelovernachting in Trianon Palace Versailles, een Waldorf Astoria Hotel!
De Hilton Car Rally was fantastisch goed georganiseerd. Het was eenvoudigweg een topdag. Daar was iedereen het over eens! – Olivier Wauters
