A table battle during an Association Dinner organized by VISITFLANDERS during IMEX? No! … Well yes, … Uhm … Ramses Van Ryssen of Event Masters challenged the American association executives into a ‘Battle of the Tables’ … via iPad. Indeed. The ‘Battle of the Tables’ is a playful quiz using the iPad where participants get film and music fragments and other tidbits dished out about ‘Destination Flanders’. In between courses of the dinner, all tables receive an iPad to answer the questions Quiz Master Ramses sets out.
“The mission is twofold”, Ramses Van Ryssen explains. “On the one hand there is the quiz time with funny clips and fun facts to make everyone forget they are already tired. On the other hand we undeniably promote Flanders as a destination.”
Last evening was superb. “You know you are facing a difficult task. The participants are still suffering from jet lag, they have been working all day at the trade fair, and while they can have a quiet dinner, you are going to challenge them with a quiz. That’s actually not so obvious. But after a glass of wine and the second question they’re all in high spirits”, a satisfied Ramses says.
“Now, this American crowd is not always easy, especially because I have a lot of questions for them on European topics which might deter them a bit, but the enthusiasm yesterday was very high,” said Ramses. “Of course, the fun factor of the quiz is also very high, but informative about ‘Destination Flanders also. The Americans are always surprised that we can be pretty original. We give a very welcoming impression and do our best to win their hearts with the quiz. Americans are indeed very understanding of the current situation in Brussels and have shown a lot of empathy.”

Een tafelgevecht tijdens een Associatie Diner van VISITFLANDERS in het kader van IMEX? Welnee! … Welja, … ’t is te zeggen … Ramses Van Ryssen van Event Masters daagde de Amerikaanse association executives uit tot een ‘Battle of the Tables’ … via iPad. Inderdaad. De ‘Battle of the Tables’ is een ludieke quiz met behulp van de iPad waarbij de deelnemers film- en muziekfragmentjes en andere weetjes over ‘Bestemming Vlaanderen’ voorgeschoteld krijgen. Tussen de verschillende gangen van het diner worden alle tafels voorzien van een iPad om te antwoorden op de vragen die Quizmaster Ramses stelt.
“De opdracht is tweeledig”, aldus Ramses Van Ryssen. “Enerzijds is er het quizmoment met grappige fragmenten en ludieke weetjes om iedereen te doen vergeten dat ze al moe zijn. Anderzijds promoten we op deze manier wel degelijk Vlaanderen waardoor we het aangename aan het nuttige koppelen.”
De avond is evenwel fantastisch verlopen. “Je weet dat je voor een moeilijke opdracht staat. De deelnemers hebben nog wat last van jetlag, hebben bovendien de ganse dag gewerkt op de beurs, en terwijl ze nu rustig kunnen eten, ga je ze uitdagen met een quiz. Da’s eigenlijk niet zo voor de hand liggend. Maar na een glas wijn en vraag 2 zijn ze wel helemaal in de opperbeste stemming”, stelt een tevreden Ramses.
“Nu, een Amerikaans publiek is niet altijd eenvoudig, vooral omdat ik met heel wat Europese vragen kom waardoor ze soms wat worden afgeschrikt, maar het enthousiasme gisteren was heel hoog”, aldus Ramses. “Uiteraard is de fun-factor van de quiz ook heel hoog, maar evenzeer informatief over ‘Bestemming Vlaanderen’. De Amerikanen zijn dan altijd weer verrast dat wij toch origineel uit de hoek kunnen komen. We geven een heel gastvrije indruk en doen ons best om hun hart te winnen met de quiz. De Amerikanen zijn trouwens heel begripvol voor de huidige situatie in Brussel en toonden heel wat empathie.”
