With these associations, Meeting In Bruges wishes to focus on a number of growth sectors, i.e. spearheads, of which the port is a good example and the healthcare sector as well. “Certain doctors around Bruges could act as ambassadors. Furthermore, logistics, tourism, culinary congresses, or cultural links to the Flemish Masters, for example. Thanks to its medical heritage, Bruges is a very attractive destination for medical conferences.”
By 2020, Bruges will also have a new trade fair and congress venue. “On the grounds of the old exhibition hall a new congress venue will arise. In the past, the old building was only used for trade fairs. However, the new venue will welcome both fairs and congresses,” explains Sarah Cornand. “The building will also be larger with a capacity of 500 to 600 participants and 4.500m². Renowned international architect teams have submitted their proposals and at the moment we are screening them to make a selection.”
One of Bruges’ greatest assets is the fact that it is a very compact city. “Everything is within walking distance. During a big conference you will meet everyone in the city. There is a nice atmosphere, good food, plenty of culture and of course delicious chocolate and beer. Our challenge is to put Bruges on the map as a meeting place. I’m confident we will succeed with the arrival of our new trade fair and congress venue. The future looks bright for Bruges,” ends Sarah Cornand.

Nieuw beurs- en congresgebouw voor Brugge
‘Meeting In Brugge’ gaat in de toekomst meer focussen op associatiecongressen. “We blijven uiteraard ook werken met incentives en kleinere meetings, maar de associatiecongressen worden evenwel belangrijker voor ons”, stelt Sarah Cornand, Sales Manager van Meeting In Brugge. “We recruteren momenteel iemand die vooral op die associatiemarkt gaat werken. We breiden ons team dus uit.”
Met die associaties wenst Meeting In Brugge te mikken op een aantal groeisectoren, speerpunten als het ware, waarvan bijvoorbeeld de haven er één is alsook de zorgsector. “Zo kunnen bepaalde artsen in de omgeving van Brugge bijvoorbeeld fungeren als ambassadeur. Verder ook logistiek, toerisme, culinaire congressen, of cultureel gelinkt aan de Vlaamse Meesters bijvoorbeeld. Dankzij het medisch erfgoed is Brugge een zeer aantrekkelijke bestemming voor medische congressen.”
Tegen 2020 zal Brugge tevens een nieuw beurs- en congrescentrum hebben. “Op de plaats van de oude beurshal zal het nieuwe beurs- en congresgebouw verrijzen. Het vroegere gebouw was het enkel voor beurzen, het nieuwe zal fungeren voor zowel beurzen als congressen”, aldus Sarah Cornand. “Het gebouw zal ook groter zijn met een capaciteit voor 500 à 600 congressisten en een beursoppervlakte van 4,500m². Internationale architectenteams met naam en faam hebben hun voorstellen ingediend en momenteel zijn we die aan het screenen om er een selectie uit te maken.”
Eén van de grootste troeven van Brugge is dat het een zeer compacte stad is. Alles ligt op wandelafstand. Tijdens een groot congres kom je iedereen in de stad tegen. Er heerst een leuke sfeer, lekker eten, veel cultuur en uiteraard ook chocolade en bier. Onze uitdaging is Brugge ook als meeting bestemming op de kaart te zetten, maar dat gaat zeker lukken nu met de komst van ons nieuw beurs- en congresgebouw wacht Brugge een mooie toekomst.”, aldus nog Sarah Cornand.
